Farrier problem with my horse! Need help!?

My gelding hates standing for the farrier and sometimes he even tries to throw himself down. He is very spirited so it's very hard to keep him calm when getting his feet done and he also gets very nervous. How can I work him before the farrier comes out so he doesn't act up? Thanks!
