Can I find my horse with his papers?

I found my gelding's papers but I traded him a few years ago and I never got the name of the family that they sold him to. His papers have his bred, where he was born, his old vet, and serial number. Is there anyway I can find him with this info? If I bring the papers to the vet how much do you think it'll cost?
