Can a Horse feel emotions?

Today my mare tripped, fell and did a face plant. I was on her and did a face plant to. On the way home my mom walked her and I rode my gelding because I was hurting and I didn't want to risk riding a hurt horse. The entire way back she was looking at me, obviously confused but I wondered was it possible for her to feel sorry, bad or guilty about falling. She has never watched me with such attention before, so was she scared that I would discipline her at home by doing some arena work that she doesn't like (I do when she bucks me off) Or was she sorry that I was crying into my geldings mane? I know it sounds ridiculous but when she intentionally bucks me off on a trail she couldn't care less and now I was the center of her attention.
